Antinori bought the Montenisa estate from the Maggi counts in 1999 and after renovating the villa and the vineyards, they started producing Franciacorta wines. The estate is located in the village of Cazzago San Martino, in the center of the DOCG, where the soils are morainic formations created by the retreat of glaciers in prehistoric times. They are extremely draining soils made up of rock debris, gravels and sands. They are rich in minerals and give wines with excellent acidity and favor the development of the aromas of the grapes. Furthermore, the mild climate south of Lake Iseo makes this area particularly suitable for viticulture.
Tenuta Montenisa today manages 60 hectares of vineyards in Franciacorta and produces 3 million bottles a year.
