The Kettmeir winery is known for its fine traditional method sparkling wines. It is actually a historic winery in the province of Bolzano, founded in Caldaro over a century ago by Giuseppe Kettmeir. In the 1960s, Kettmeir was a pioneer of South Tyrolean sparkling wine production, producing them with the tank method, in addition to traditional still wines. In the 1980s the Kettmeir family decided to sell the cellar into the hands of a big group of Italian wine: Santa Margherita, which invested in Kettmeir winery and led it to be one of the most illustrious and appreciated realities in South Tyrol. Santa Margherita introduced the traditional method of refermentation in the bottle for the creation of sparkling wines. Kettmeir has been a private winery since it’s the beginning, purchasing grapes from a number of trusted and loyal growers. Today it can count on the grapes of 60 winemakers scattered in different areas and at different altitudes. In each area, grapes congenial to the type of territory and specific climate are grown. This has led Kettmeir to develop 3 product lines, a classic one with the typical South Tyrolean varieties, a “cru” line, namely wines from single suited vineyards and finally the traditional method sparkling wines.
