The Fonzone winery was born in Irpinia in 2005 thanks to the investment and passion of the Fonzone Caccese family. They manage over 23 ha of vineyards in the Paternopoli area in the province of Avellino, as well as a part of land dedicated to orchards, olive trees and woods.
The functional cellar was built almost entirely underground, preserving the landscape and ensuring natural, constant cool temperature all year round. Most of the vineyards extend over hills around the cellar from 360 to 450 m of altitude with various exposures.
The soils are of sedimentary origin; in part they have compact clayey-calcareous formation, in part they are more loose. Other vineyards, on the other hand, are found in the municipality of Lapio at about 600 m above sea level, where the Greco and Fiano white grape varieties are grown. Everything is conducted with the aim of quality.
Even if they have no certifications, they work the vines with organic farming, fertilizing only with manure and no artificial fertilizers and they use sulfur and copper to defend the plants from fungal attacks. In the cellar they use natural spontaneous yeasts.
The headquarters is located within the DOCG Taurasi, but they cultivate all the native varieties of Irpinia and produce both red and white wines of high quality.
