Fattoria Selvapiana

Rufina is the smallest of the sub-zones of the Chianti DOCG appellation, but many agree that it is the most suitable of all. It is located in the Val di Sieve, to the west of Florence and as early as 1716 Cosimo III dei Medici had protected it as a territory of origin for quality wines. The strong points of this territory are due to its position close to the Apennines. The soil is made of clay, galestro (friable rock) and limestone; the climate is cool as it is affected by the air coming down from the mountains.
Fattoria Selvapiana has been producing wine for over a century. Since the 1970s, its Sangiovese wines have emerged as great labels capable of extraordinary longevity. Today Federico Giuntini and his son Niccolò carry on the activities with a strictly organic farming in the vineyards and they apply traditional practices in the cellar.
The range of labels includes outstanting single-vineyard Chianti Rufina wines such as the historic Riserva Bucerchiale and the latest Riserva Vigneto Erchi. The winery also produces wines from international grapes and an excellent Vin Santo.
