Fattoria Le Mortelle

Owned by the Antinori family, Fattoria Le Mortelle extends behind the beaches of Castiglion della Pescaia (southern Tuscany) and includes a wide variety of crops in addition to the grape vine, which has been present here for over a century.
The Antinori's investment in Maremma was substantial: from vineyards’ renovation to the construction of a new modern cellar almost completely underground and covered with plants, which guarantees perfect conditions for the wine making and aging.
The operations in the cellar are in fact distributed over several levels, so as to be facilitated by gravity from one step to the next and the temperature is naturally cool and constant throughout the year.
The soils of the vineyards are sandy and silty with alternating skeleton and siliceous-clay component. The most cultivated grape-varieties are Cabernet sauvignon and Cabernet franc, which here benefit from a Mediterranean climate, warm and dry thanks to the influence of the sea breezes. Le Mortelle wines have a generous and compelling profile, always very fruity and rounded. In addition to producing wine, Le Mortelle is a true eco-sustainable farm, which produces fruit and is open to visits.
