Fattoria Ambra

Fattoria Ambra belongs to the Rigoli family and is located in the Carmignano area near the Medici Villa of Poggio a Caiano, just outside Florence. The name “Ambra” derives from a poem by Lorenzo the Magnificent.
The Medici loved to retire to Carmignano, where they had more than one villa and a private hunting reserve: the Barco Reale. Barco Reale today gives its name to a DOC but the most suitable and important wine of the area is Carmignano DOCG, a wine with an ancient tradition and also linked to the history of the Medici. In fact, it is said that after the wedding of Caterina de 'Medici to Louis XIV, the Sun King, the Medici planted vines from France in Carmignano.
What the local farmers called “francesca grape” was actually Cabernet, which occurs as a complement to Sangiovese in Carmignano wines. In Carmignano the Fattoria Ambra cultivates 22 hectares of vineyards divided into 4 plots, each with its own characteristics: Montalbiolo rich in marl, Elzana more clayey, Santa Cristina in Pilli with alberese (white limestone), and finally Montefortini with loose sandstones. They are real crus, in favorable positions and the company philosophy aims to express the differences of the territory, producing 4 different Carmignano labels from a single vineyard.
The management of the company is familiar and the vineyards are managed with integrated pest management and are certified organic.
