The Cotarella family includes a world-famous winemaker such as Riccardo Coterella and the CEO of the Marchesi Antinori (Renzo Cotarella). But the Cotarella family has also owned wine estates in Lazio since the 1960s.
Falesco was the first modern winery created by the brothers Renzo and Riccardo Cotarella in 1979 in Montefiascone in the province of Viterbo and focuses on traditional wines from local varieties, such as Roscetto and Ferentano, but also on the elaboration of modern wines such as the very famous Montiano, a Merlot in purity, among the most interesting in Italy.
Today the daughters of Renzo and Riccardo continue the business, that they have differentiated with 3 product lines, including the Marciliano estate in Umbria in the Orvieto area. The production philosophy is based on technique, or rather on the accuracy of the oenological phases for all wines of every line and every style. Cotarella has been able to enhance the indigenous grape varieties of Lazio that were almost disappearing and has been able to interpret grapes such as Merlot and Syrah in an original and modern way.
The Cotarella family also controls the Le Manioche estate in Montalcino, Tuscany and distributes Champagne. The Cotarella family today boasts 370 hectares of vineyards in Lazio and production settles at 3,800,000 bottles a year.
