Château Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild is one of the main wineries in Bordeaux, located in the village of Pauillac. Its flagship wine is one of the most famous, sought after and expensive wines in the world. Its business began in the 1600s; In 1855 as Château Lafite it was one of the Premier Cru Classé together with Ch. Margaux, Ch. Latour and Ch. Haut-Brion. In 1868 it was bought by Baron James de Rothschild. Hence the current name.
Pauillac is the largest village in the Médoc, suited for Cabernet Sauvignon. Pauillac wines combine fresh fruit and oak, subtlety and substance. They always have a touch of cigar box, an idea of sweetness and above all vigor and longevity.
The estate covers 178 hectares of which 105 are vineyards. Cabernet sauvignon is the most cultivated grape variety and constitutes 70% of the total, followed by Merlot (25%), Cabernet franc (3%) and Petit verdot (2%). The vineyards are all in the municipality of Pauillac except for a small part, which is located in Saint'Estèphe, but which he is allowed to use for his wines under the Pauillac appellation.
Château Lafite Rothschild boasts a rich heritage of old vintages and can prove that the longevity of its wines is not a legend but a reality. Château Lafite Rothschild produces an average of 300,000 bottles a year divided between 2 labels: the grand vin that bears the name of the Château and the second vin, "Les Carruades de Lafite".
