Castello di Ama gave a qualitative change to Chianti Classico in the 1970s and today it combines art and fine wines in an enchanted place in the Chianti region. Four Roman families in the 1970s decided to invest in the project of an excellent winery in the heart of Chianti.
They bought the Castello di Ama farm with wonderfully located vineyards, surrounded by woods at a decent altitude. The young oenologist Marco Pallanti, who had worked in Bordeaux, was called in to lead the operations. Marco Pallanti brought a new way approach in wine making and released modern Chianti Classico wines, from a single vineyard, real "Grand Cru". He also introduced French varieties such as Merlot, Chardonnay, Pinot noir to make wines never seen before in Tuscany. Since then, Marco Pallanti and his wife Lorenza Sebasti have been guiding Castello di Ama, whose wines rank among the finest Italian wines and are appreciated all over the world.
The territory of Gaiole in Chianti includes high hills and soils rich in sandstone and marl that enhance the floral and balsamic aromas in the wines. Castello di Ama is not only a winery, but it also has a high level restaurant and it is possible to stay in the completely renovated villa. Moreover Castello di Ama has become an attractive pole for contemporary artists, whose installations are integrated into the winery and the surrounding landscape.
