Campo alla Sughera

Campo alla Sughera is a young Tuscan winery founded by the German entrepreneur Knauf in 1998 in Bolgheri on the wave of the success of this appellation. The estate was surrounded by olive and cork trees, hence its name (“sughero” in Italian means cork). With the 2001 vintage the first label is released: the Bolgheri Superiore Arnione. Campo alla Sughera manages 16.5 hectares of its own vineyards in the center of the appellation, along the Via Bolgherese which separates the flat part from the hilly part. The soil is ancient of alluvial origin and perfectly suited for international varieties, especially for Cabernet sauvignon. The microclimate in Bolgheri is affected by the sea breazes and allows for perfect grape ripeness.
The Knauf family has adopted a very rational model of managing the vineyards, identifying the most suitable plot for each of the cultivated varieties: Cabernet sauvignon, Cabernet franc, Merlot, Petit verdot and Vermentino. The model of inspiration is that of the great wines of Bordeaux and in fact the oenologist who follows the cellar as a consultant since 2017 comes from Bordeaux. The cellar is modern, divided into three floors and designed to move wine using the force of gravity.
