Biondi Santi

Biondi Santi is considered by all to be the father of Brunello di Montalcino and with his wine he has entered the Olympus of the best wines of the world.
Biondi Santi is a historic winery from Montalcino in Tuscany. Ferruccio Biondi Santi is considered the noble father of Brunello di Montalcino, as he was one of the first to believe in this wine and to make it known, already at the end of the 19th century obtaining important international awards. He believed that the local grape, Sangiovese, could turn into a long-lived wine. His Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 1888 is considered the starting point of the history of this wine of Italy. His wines are recognized wines of great elegance rather than power; they give their best over time, that is, they are wines that improve slowly if stored well in the cellar. It has always been a family business, today managing 32 hectares of vineyards not far from the town of Montalcino on the south-eastern side.
The high altitude of the vineyards and the fortunate position favor grapes with high acidity, which makes the wines particularly elegant and suitable of evolving over time. The winery only grows Sangiovese from which it produces Brunello di Montalcino; Rosso di Montalcino is produced from the youngest plants. In the best years from the oldest plants, Biondi Santi produces Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, considered one of the greatest wines of Italy. After the death of Franco Biondi Santi, a prestigious French group entered the property, without this having changed the quality of the wines. Tancredi Biondi Santi, the last heir of the family, nevertheless is engaged in managing the company. Biondi Santi is a traditional-style producer, that uses to age wine in large barrels for a long time.
