Chardonnay’s varietal purity with no oak influence is highlighted thanks to the suited region of Isonzo valley.
White berried grape spread all over the world, for many Chardonnay is a model of white wine. The fruity intensity, the creaminess of the taste and the versatility are the strong points of this French variety. It has been cultivated in Friuli-Venezia Giulia for a long time, in fact the international varieties were introduced during the Austrian domination. It occurs in the blend in many Friulian white wines, but only some producers make it in purity. Lis Neris, on the other hand, loves to reveal the purest character of Chardonnay, counting on a suitable territory. The vineyards are located on a gravelly limestone plateau in various locations between 25 and 60 meters above sea level along the Isonzo Valley; the plants are 15 years old and are practically treated organically.
The grapes are harvested by hand in September. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature. At the end the wine also undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages for 8 months in stainless steel vats remaining in contact with its own klees kept in suspension by frequent bâtonnage.
