    Pomino Bianco Benefizio Riserva 2022

Pomino Benefizio has historical relevance, because it was the first Chardonnay planted in Tuscany. In the mid-1800s, Vittorio Albizi returned to Italy from the exile that the Medici family of Florence had forced him to and took possession of his home: Pomino Castle. Vittorio Albizi was a passionate scholar of agriculture and viticulture and brought Chardonnay from France for the first time to Tuscany along with other French varieties that are still grown in Pomino. Vittorio had no heirs and his sister Leonia had married a Frescobaldi, so the entire Castello di Pomino estate passed into the hands of Frescobaldi.

The Pomino Benefizio is a 100% Chardonnay grown in high hills, in fact the Pomino vineyards are located at 700 meters above sea level. This determines particularly cool climatic conditions, suitable for the production of an elegant and refined Chardonnay as in its homeland, which is Burgundy. The Pomino vineyards have soils rich in sand with many stones.

A pre-ferment maceration at very low temperature is carried out before alcoholic fermentation. Malolactic fermentation is only partially achieved. The wine ages for 10 months in French oak barriques, half of which are new and half of the second passage.
