Bolgheri Rosso DOC Donna Olimpia 1898 2022

The wine is made from grapes harvested in the estate's vineyards in the southernmost part of the Bolgheri DOC, between the road Aurelia and the village of Castagneto Carducci. The sea to the west and the hills to the east affect the climate of the micro-area, which enjoys many hours of sunlight, mild annual average temperatures and high diurnal range in summer during grape ripening. In addition, the sea breezes sweep away the humidity and keep the air dry between the rows of vines. In these conditions, the Bordeaux grapes ripen to perfection, develop intense aromatic compounds and give balanced wines that are easy to drink. The soil of the vineyards is mainly sandy and silty, of alluvial origin. The yields in the vineyard are kept low in order to have concentrated grapes.

The harvest takes place in the months of September and October and is separated for each variety. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature with prolonged maceration on the skins. After racking, the wine also undergoes malolactic fermentation and then it ages for at least a year in French barriques, half of which are new.
